Eight international schools in China took part in the voting: Beijing City International School (BCIS), Beijing BISS International School (BISS), British School of Beijing (BSB), Dulwich College Beijing (DCB), International School of Beijing (ISB) International School of Tianjin (IST) Western Academy of Beijing (WAB) Yew Chung International Beijing (YCIS-Beijing) In total, 2,824 students cast their vote for their favorite book.

The winners of the Panda Book Awards 2009 will receive a certificate mounted on a beautiful hand painted Chinese silk scroll. Last year’s winner of the Older Readers’ category, J.K. Rowling, gracefully replied to our congratulatory letter and sent all the participating schools a personally signed photograph. We hope to receive similar feedback from this year’s winners. Librarians in Beijing have already started the process of creating a long list for next year’s Panda booklist and will narrow down their title choices in the next couple of weeks. Numerous copies of the selected titles will be ordered over the summer holidays to get ready for the launch of the Panda Book Awards 2010 in the fall.
