Panda Shortlists 2015-2016

What is the Panda Book Award?

The Panda Book Awards reading initiative promises to take our students on an exciting reading adventure and invites students from participating schools to vote for their favorite book published in 2014-2016. It encourages young people to read quality books selected by international librarians throughout China. The program starts in the fall of 2016 and the voting will take place in the first two weeks after Chinese Year in 2017. The Panda books are carefully chosen to represent an international selection. Each school division has its unique list.
The panda was chosen as the mascot for thIs reading initiative, as it holds a special place in the hearts of the Chinese people as a symbol of peace and a token of forging friendly ties. Not only do the Panda books promote reading, it also brings together school librarians across China who work daily to introduce kids to the fantastic world of books.
Classroom teachers, language arts teachers are also encouraged to distribute the reading lists to their students and to incorporate them into their daily teaching.

How to Join

There are two ways you can join the Panda Book Awards reading initiative. Please do this before December 2015.
  1. Contact Nadine Rosevear - librarian at the International School of Beijing - to let her know that your school is interested in participating in the annual Panda Book Awards voting. She will make sure that your school will be registered for voting.
  2. Contact your Follett representative to express your interest.

Once we know that you are interested in the Panda Awards voting, Follett, who is our main sponsor, will be able to send you an email notification early December 2015 to register for voting. This will ensure that your school's name will appear on the Panda voting site that you will receive by email in the first week after Chinese New Year 2016. Your students will have two weeks to cast their votes, from February 15 until February 26, 2016.

For further questions, email Nadine Rosevear
