What is the Panda Book Award?

The Panda Book Awards reading initiative promises to take our students on an exciting reading adventure and invites students from participating schools to vote for their favorite book published in 2015-2017. It encourages young people to read quality books selected by international librarians throughout China. The program starts in the fall of 2017 and the voting will take place in the first two weeks after Chinese Year in 2018. The Panda books are carefully chosen to represent an international selection. Each school division has its unique list.
The panda was chosen as the mascot for thIs reading initiative, as it holds a special place in the hearts of the Chinese people as a symbol of peace and a token of forging friendly ties. Not only do the Panda books promote reading, it also brings together school librarians across China who work daily to introduce kids to the fantastic world of books.
Classroom teachers, language arts teachers are also encouraged to distribute the reading lists to their students and to incorporate them into their daily teaching.

How can you participate?

There are two ways you can join the Panda Book Awards reading initiative. Please do this before December 2017.
  1. Contact Nadine Rosevear - librarian at the International School of Beijing - to let her know that your school is interested in participating in the annual Panda Book Awards voting. She will make sure that your school will be registered for voting.
  2. Respond to the survey that will be sent to librarians' groups in China (Beijing Librarians Network - BJLN, Shanghai Librarians Network, Pear River Delta Librarians) at the end of November 2017.This will ensure that your school's name will appear on the Panda voting site that you will receive by email in the first week after Chinese New Year 2018. Your students will have two weeks to cast their votes.
